Manipur police order daily security escorts on NH-37 after Zeliangrong Youth Front flags passenger safety

Imphal: Commuters traveling along National Highway 37 might finally get some peace of mind. Following sharp concerns over commuter safety, the Manipur Police has ordered daily security escorts for passenger vehicles on the highway.

The move follows a direct request from the Zeliangrong Youth Front (ZYF). The youth group had earlier knocked on the Chief Minister's door, asking for adequate protection for everyday passengers moving through the area. That appeal set things in motion, linking back to an earlier official memo from the Chief Minister's Secretariat dated May 18, 2026.

The daily escorts will specifically cover the Imphal to Tupul route. This stretch is critical for travelers heading out to further pockets like:

  • Tamenglong
  • Nungba
  • Noney
  • Khoupum
  • Tamei
  • Tousem

The department's top brass told ground teams to get things moving. Signed by the Additional DGP (Operations) acting for the DGP, the letter tells the local Superintendent of Police to deploy the escorts right away and send a compliance report back to headquarters. For the local drivers and families who rely on this highway daily, it is a massive relief.
