Imphal: Manipur Police arrested three active members of the banned PREPAK insurgent group on June 29. The arrests follow a string of hand grenade attacks targeting houses across Imphal East and Imphal West districts. Officials confirmed the investigation stemmed from an FIR filed at Porompat Police Station after a blast at a home in Brahmapur.
Authorities identified the suspects as 24-year-old Sorokhaibam Rohit Meitei, 20-year-old Salam Yaiphaba Meitei, and one juvenile. Police caught the trio in the Sawombung area. Officers recovered the final unused grenade and two scooters used during the spree. Investigators stated that the group received six grenades from a handler, using five to strike various residential locations.
In a separate operation that same day, police raided the Sanjenlok area under Sagolmang Police Station. They uncovered a massive stockpile of weapons. The cache included an AK rifle, a 9 mm pistol, a country-made carbine, and 19 No. 36 hand grenades. Officers also seized two SLR tube launchers, various rounds of ammunition, and ten detonators.
Police remain on the hunt for other members of the cell. "Further investigation is underway to identify other members of the network and trace the source of the recovered weapons and explosives," officials said.
