Imphal: Manipur Police incinerated more than 39,000 kilograms of seized narcotics and psychotropic substances on June 17, 2026. The mass disposal took place at the Shija Hospital Biomedical Waste Treatment Facility in Lamdeng, located in the Imphal West district.
Led by Inspector General of Police Worngam Ningshen, the operation disposed of 39,395 kg of contraband collected over the past year. The destroyed inventory featured 4.44 kg of heroin, 5.4 kg of brown sugar, 26.50 kg of ganja, and various tablets, including 0.422 kg of WY pills and 2.66 kg of SP tablets. These items were confiscated during coordinated efforts by district police, the Narcotics and Border Affairs unit, and other security agencies.
During the event, IGP Ningshen praised the police personnel for their commitment to combating drug trafficking despite significant personal dangers. He emphasized the necessity of community cooperation in securing a drug-free future, stating, "He also appealed to the public to assist the authorities by providing actionable information about drug dealers and peddlers." This initiative serves as a milestone in the state government's broader strategy to eliminate illegal drug trade within Manipur.
