Imphal: Manipur Police and security forces have detained nine suspected militants linked to banned organizations following a string of operations across the state. These arrests target groups involved in grenade attacks, extortion schemes, and the illegal distribution of weapons.
On June 18, authorities arrested four members of the Kangleipak Communist Party (People's War Group) for allegedly planting hand grenades at various sites in Imphal East, including a residence at Brahmapur Nahabam Bamon Leikai. The suspects were identified as Huidrom Palinba Singh, Pebam Roshan Singh, Nameirakpam Jitson Meitei, and Maimom Lemba Meitei.
In a separate operation that same day, security forces apprehended four cadres of the KCP (MFL) within Kakching district. Official reports state the group was actively engaged in extortion and the illegal supply of arms. The detained individuals are Moirangthem Tondomba Singh, Wahengbam Inao Singh, Nongmaithem David Meitei, and Maibam Lokendro Singh.
These actions follow earlier arrests made on June 16 and June 17. Security forces took Arambam Sanayaima Meitei, an alleged member of the Revolutionary People's Front/People's Liberation Army, into custody in Imphal East. Additionally, Hemam Laingam Meitei of the KCP-PWG was captured in Bishnupur. These arrests are part of an ongoing security initiative to stabilize the region. Officials noted the arrests form part of "ongoing counter-insurgency operations being carried out across Manipur amid continued efforts to curb militant activities, extortion networks and the circulation of illegal arms."
