Imphal: Manipur Police commandos locked up four extortionists on Saturday. They ran coordinated raids across Imphal East, Imphal West, and Thoubal districts to root out local militant groups. The crackdown netted a massive stash of weapons and ammunition hidden on a hilltop.
Officers grabbed three Kangleipak Communist Party-People’s War Group members during the first sweep. Those men are Ningombam Ajitkumar Singh, 46, Laishram Surjit Meitei, 43, and Laishram Birjit Singh, 35. Cops also seized a Honda Activa scooter and various documents linking them to the crimes.
Commandos caught a fourth man near Mantripukhri. They identified him as Chandam Geetchandra Singh, a 34-year-old tied to the United National Liberation Front-Pambei. Police noted this group is currently in talks with the government. A spokesperson said, "Further investigation is underway to ascertain the source of the weapons and identify others involved."
Forces later found a hidden arsenal at Salungpham Uyok Ching in the Thoubal district. The haul included 12 hand grenades, two Beretta pistols, two .32 calibre pistols, and two single-barrel guns. They also counted 1,242 rounds of assorted ammunition and seven loose magazines. The suspects and the gear are now in police custody for legal processing.
