Imphal: Manipur police arrested Moirangthem Naoba Meitei on Monday for his alleged role in extortion schemes. The 32-year-old suspect belongs to the banned UNLF (P) militant group. Officers tracked him to his home in Wangkhei Yonglan Leirak before moving in to make the bust.

The operation took place under the watch of the Porompat Police Station in Imphal East. Security forces searched the property and found a Thompson repeater single-barrel firearm, which the suspect held legally. They also grabbed two Baofeng handheld radios and two chargers. Everything is now in evidence.

Investigators are still working to map out the extent of his criminal network. Police said, "Further investigation is underway to ascertain the extent of the accused's involvement in extortion activities and any possible links with other members of the outfit." Officials are now chasing leads on his potential associates.
