Manipur Officials Train Journalists on AI Fact-Checking

Imphal: The Directorate of Information and Public Relations held a one-day workshop in Imphal today. It focused on the use of Artificial Intelligence in modern newsrooms. Government officials and media members attended the event at the DIPR Auditorium.

Hungyo Worshang, the IPR Secretary, opened the session. He noted that tech shifts are impossible to ignore. Journalists must now master digital tools to process data and verify leads. "Technological advancements cannot be resisted and that media professionals should learn to effectively manage and utilise AI," Worshang said.

Director Dr. Th. Charanjeet Singh warned of digital risks. He cited deep fakes and misinformation as major threats to media integrity. The event aimed to update local newsrooms on the latest verification methods.

Technical sessions covered practical AI applications. Dr. Haobam Joyremba Singh debunked common tech myths. Meanwhile, Dr. Hanjabam Saratchandra looked at AI in content creation. Finally, Dr. Angom Buboo Singh showed how tools improve newsroom speed. Reporters walked away with new strategies for vetting online sources.
