Imphal: The Naga People’s Front Manipur State Unit has rejected claims by Kuki civil societies that they are unaware of six Naga men abducted from Leilon Vaiphei village in May 2026. NPF President Awangbow Abonmai labeled the denial from Kuki groups as disturbing and contrary to the truth, noting that the abduction occurred alongside a larger group of civilians who have since been released.
According to the NPF, the group of captives originally included women and children who were held before being released on May 15. The party argues that these survivors serve as living witnesses who can identify the abductors and describe the circumstances under which the men were separated from their families. The released women include Kachiaklung Thiumai, Winiliu Thiumai, Sarah Thiumai, and Wibonliu Chawang.
The NPF is calling for accountability, questioning how an abduction could occur in public view without any group taking responsibility. They are demanding transparency regarding the location and status of the remaining hostages: Rev. Dr. Manu Thiumai, Dilip Thiumai, Phenrilungbou Chawang, Pherongwibou Thiumai, and Kenpibou Chawang. The party insists that official denials cannot erase the trauma and testimonies provided by the families affected by this ongoing situation.
