Manipur MP Breaks Ground on Nupi Laan Memorial in Assam

Imphal: Rajya Sabha MP A Sharda Devi laid the foundation stone for a Nupi Laan memorial today in Jaribond, Assam. The site sits within the Hailakandi district. She marked the event alongside local MLA Dr. Milon Das and a crowd of residents.

The project honors the historic Women's War that defines Manipuri heritage. Devi noted that her people maintain deep connections regardless of where they live. She praised the group for keeping their heritage alive. "The proposed memorial, she added, would symbolise the historical and cultural ties shared by Manipuris across geographical boundaries and serve as a tribute to the women who played a defining role in Nupi Laan."

Devi credited Dr. Milon Das for backing the effort. She also thanked retired Colonel B.B. Sinha for giving the land needed to build the structure.
