Manipur Highway Blockade Stalls Supply Route Despite Official Pleas

Imphal: A blockade at Namdilong Gate halted traffic on National Highway-2 again today. Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh asked protesters to stand down. They refused. The standoff continues near the Sekmai Police Station in the Imphal West district.

Crowds from the Meitei and Naga communities maintain a tight grip on the road. Volunteers spend their time frisking trucks. They inspect vehicles hauling food and essential supplies between Imphal and Kangpokpi. This highway serves as a main artery for the state. Goods are stuck.

Passenger cars and emergency vehicles get a pass, but they face constant watch. Security forces crowd the area to head off trouble. The situation is tense. Local officials confirm that no violence has broken out. "Economic blockade on NH-2 continues despite CM’s appeal," the state reported while noting the current stalemate.
