Imphal: Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh handed out 31 high-yielding pregnant heifers to farmers on September 25. The recipients hail from Scheduled Caste communities. They received the livestock under a project funded by the North Eastern Council.
The event took place at the Farmers Training Hall inside the Veterinary Complex at Sanjenthong in Imphal. Singh backed the move as a way to bolster rural livelihoods. He noted that such initiatives help cattle farmers improve their work. Khemchand said, "such initiatives undertaken by the Veterinary Department would help cattle farmers enhance their livelihoods and strengthen their income-generating activities."
Top brass from the state government attended the handover. Dr. Rangitabali Waikhom, Secretary of Veterinary and Animal Husbandry, joined the event. Dr. L. Arunkumar Singh, Director of Veterinary and Animal Husbandry Services, and R.K. Radhesana Devi, Director of the Planning Department, also observed the distribution.
