Manipur Group Demands NRC Update Before Census Over Illegal Immigration

Imphal: Activists are pushing to update the National Register of Citizens in Manipur before the government starts the census. The Campaign for Just and Fair Delimitation held a meeting at Haoreibi Kangjeibung Community Hall to rally support for this move. They believe illegal immigration remains the top threat to the state.

JFD Finance Secretary Sunil Karam slammed the government for its lack of action. He says officials have ignored calls to identify and deport migrants from neighboring countries. "Protecting the indigenous population and safeguarding the interests of future generations required immediate action on the issue," Karam told the crowd.

Karam warned that ignoring these demographic concerns will hurt the state. He urged local leaders to push the central government for a firm response. He argued that officials must finish the registration process before they start counting people. Otherwise, the census results will be skewed. The group wants the public to stay alert and support their campaign for a transparent verification process.
