Imphal: Manipur fuel transporters will stop work indefinitely starting July 31. The protest follows a collapse in talks with Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh regarding illegal tax collection along National Highway 37. The strike will halt operations at the Indian Oil Corporation Limited depot in Malom and the Sekmai LPG bottling plant. Petrol stations across the state face imminent supply disruptions.
The All Manipur Petroleum Products Transporters Association confirmed the decision after a July 29 meeting at the Chief Minister’s Office in Mantripukhri. President A. Tamphayai said the group rejected government promises of future laws to address their problems. "The delegation highlighted the challenges posed by poor road conditions and recurring landslides," Khemchand Singh noted online regarding separate talks.
Official discussions included the Director General of Police, the Home Secretary, and the Transport Commissioner. Representatives from the All Manipur Bulk LPG Transporters Association, HPCL Dealers Association, and NAYARA Dealers Association also attended. Despite assurances on road security and safety, the transporters refused to call off the action. They demand immediate relief from the current situation on the Imphal-Jiribam route.
