Imphal: Suspected militants gunned down 53-year-old farmer Haolal Singsit on Saturday. Singsit worked his paddy field in the Kangpokpi district when the killers struck around 4 pm. His wife, Nemneikim Singsit, survived the attack unharmed. Witnesses heard nearly 20 rounds of gunfire during the assault.

Security forces arrived shortly after the shooting to recover the victim's body. Violence flared elsewhere in the state the same day. A mob of nearly 600 people attempted to push into Kanto Sabal village in Imphal West. Security teams blocked the crowd to stop a massive communal clash. The mob still managed to torch three abandoned homes.

Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh condemned the arson attack. He confirmed that authorities have arrested two suspects so far. "Security personnel intercepted the group, preventing what officials described as a potential communal confrontation," the Chief Minister said. Police are now working to stabilize the region.
