Imphal: The Manipur government has dispatched a State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) team to Churachandpur to intensify the search for a 13-year-old student. Lamboikim, a Class VIII pupil from K. Khomunnom village, disappeared on June 11 after being swept away by flash flood waters in the Tuibong Sub-Division during a period of heavy rainfall.
Initial search efforts were conducted by local youth volunteers and community organizations along the Tuitha River. These efforts faced significant delays due to continuous rain, dangerous water levels, and a lack of specialized equipment. Following a formal request from local officials, the state government sent the SDRF unit from Imphal to assist the operation.
Led by Havildar Riyajuddin, the rescue team is currently operating near Zero Point, the area where the girl was last seen. The team is utilizing inflatable boats and specialized gear to navigate the river channels and surrounding flood zones. Officials confirmed that the search is being treated with the highest priority despite ongoing weather challenges.
Expressing the team's commitment to the mission, Havildar Riyajuddin said "rescue personnel would continue the operation until the victim is located and recovered." Authorities are now coordinating with downstream areas to check for signs of the missing student and have asked the public to assist where possible as the search continues.
