Imphal: A police commando was killed during an anti-drug operation in Manipur's Thoubal district on Wednesday night. Head Constable Khoirom Suresh Singh, who was attached to the Thoubal Commando unit, died after being attacked with a knife while authorities were investigating reports of illicit narcotics activity.
The operation took place near Moijing Khongkok around 8:00 pm. During the interaction, security personnel attempted to detain two suspects, identified as 25-year-old Md. Naobi alias Mahil and 30-year-old Salman Khan. Authorities report that the officer was critically wounded during this encounter. He was rushed to the District Hospital in Thoubal but succumbed to his injuries by 9:15 pm.
The two suspects fled the area immediately after the attack, leaving behind their vehicle. While initial reports suggested the suspects had absconded, later updates confirmed that police have moved to secure both individuals in connection with the incident. Law enforcement officials have launched an investigation into the fatal assault.
This incident occurs as the Manipur Police continues a statewide campaign to dismantle illegal drug trafficking networks. The loss of the officer has highlighted the significant dangers faced by security forces currently engaged in high-stakes enforcement efforts across the region.
