Imphal: Manipur Chief Minister Y Khemchand Singh has publicly condemned Congress leader Rahul Gandhi for labeling Prime Minister Narendra Modi a traitor. Singh described the comment as a disgraceful and reckless attack that disrespects both the office of the Prime Minister and the democratic mandate held by the people of India.
The controversy stems from a speech Gandhi delivered in Rae Bareli, where he targeted both Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah regarding economic and governance concerns. During the same address, Gandhi criticized the Prime Minister's recent interaction with Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, dismissing the viral social media moment as mere theater.
Singh accused the Leader of Opposition of promoting toxic and divisive politics during a period when the nation faces various internal and external challenges. He stated that the country would not accept insults aimed at its elected leadership for the sake of political gain. Other BJP figures have joined the criticism, with Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath labeling the rhetoric as undignified and harmful to democratic values.
