Manipur CM Celebrates Padma Shri Honours for Regional Cultural Icons

Imphal: Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh recently celebrated the posthumous conferment of the Padma Shri award upon Yumnam Jatra Singh. The cultural icon was recognized for his significant contributions to the field of Art, specifically his expertise as a distinguished exponent of Nat Sankirtana.

Sharing his thoughts on social media, the Chief Minister praised the late artist as a symbol of cultural excellence whose legacy continues to resonate with new generations. He noted that such recognition highlights the artistic heritage and vital contributions coming from the Northeastern region of India.

The awards were presented during an official investiture ceremony held at Rashtrapati Bhavan in New Delhi, where President Droupadi Murmu presided over the proceedings. Khemchand Singh also extended his congratulations to other Northeast recipients honoured this year, including Kabindra Purkayastha for Public Affairs, along with Jogesh Deuri, Nuruddin Ahmed, Pokhila Lekthepi, and Haricharan Saikia for their various achievements.
