Imphal: Manipur Chief Minister Y Khemchand Singh opened the 19th Governor's Taekwondo Cup at the Khuman Lampak Indoor Stadium in Imphal on July 11. The All-Manipur Taekwondo Association organized the event to bring together athletes from across the state. It is a big stage.

Singh noted the tournament began in 1980 while he served as the association president. He expressed pride in the event reaching its 19th year. The association's coaches and technical staff helped groom over 40 international athletes from Manipur. This hard work pays off.

The Chief Minister praised the martial art as a path toward personal growth. He argued that the sport builds character. "While every competition has winners and losers, the true spirit of taekwondo lies in competing with respect rather than hostility," Singh said. He believes the values of discipline and friendship learned on the mat stay with the competitors long after the matches finish.
