Imphal: Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh kicked off the International Olympic Day Run 2026 on Tuesday. The event took place at the Khuman Lampak Sports Complex in Imphal. Home and Youth Affairs and Sports Minister K. Govindas Singh joined him alongside local MLAs and officials.

Runners covered three kilometers to mark the 1894 founding of the Modern Olympic Movement. The event aimed to boost sports and youth participation. It also signaled India's goal to host the Olympic Games in 2036. The Chief Minister pushed for a disciplined, active lifestyle during his address.

"The Chief Minister highlighted the importance of promoting sports and encouraging youth participation in activities that foster unity, discipline and healthy living."

Organizers added a green element to the athletic event. Participants planted nursery saplings at the site. This move aimed to link sporting success with long-term environmental health.
