Manipur BJP Chief Sharda Devi Sworn In as Rajya Sabha MP

Imphal: Adhikarimayum Sharda Devi is now a member of the Rajya Sabha. She took her oath of office in New Delhi on Monday. Vice President and Rajya Sabha Chairman C.P. Radhakrishnan administered the oath at Parliament House. Sharda Devi chose to speak in Manipuri during the ceremony.

She moves into the position unopposed. No other candidates stayed in the race after nomination windows closed. Sharda Devi steps in to replace Leishemba Sanajaoba. His six-year term in the Upper House just wrapped up. She filed her nomination as the NDA candidate on June 8 and secured her certificate of election three days later.

She is the current president of the BJP Manipur unit. Her formal induction comes alongside eight other lawmakers from states including Gujarat, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, and Rajasthan. The group joined the chamber this week.
