Imphal: Manipur athlete Kimkim Khongsai claimed the Under-15 singles title at the Yonex-Sunrise All India Sub Junior National Ranking Badminton Tournament 2026. Held at the Pullela Gopichand Badminton Academy in Hyderabad, the event also saw Khongsai partner with Liansangpuia of Mizoram to win the gold medal in the mixed doubles category.
Originally from Chonjang village in the Kangpokpi district, Khongsai overcame significant personal challenges to reach the national podium. Due to the ongoing ethnic conflict in Manipur, she secured a No Objection Certificate from the Badminton Association of Manipur to represent Nagaland. This move allowed her to continue her training and maintain her competitive standing.
Currently ranked 15th nationally in the under-15 division, Khongsai is now viewed as a symbol of determination within the regional sporting community. Her achievements highlight a growing talent pool from the Northeast and provide a source of inspiration for other young athletes. Supporters describe her recent success as a "testament to her determination and ability to rise above adversity."
