Manipur authorities arrest two after mob violence in Imphal West

Imphal: Manipur authorities arrested two suspects after a mob torched houses in Kanto Sabal village. The violence hit the Imphal West district following a long stretch of quiet. Government officials now fear agitators are trying to wreck the peace process.

Large contingents of Manipur Police and Central Armed Police Forces moved into the area to lock it down. Officials also tightened security across sensitive fringe zones in the Imphal Valley to prevent new communal flare-ups.

Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh condemned the attack. He warned the public against inciting further disorder during this volatile time. "I urge everyone to remain calm, refrain from spreading rumours, and cooperate with the authorities," Singh said.

The government claims it will hunt down everyone involved in the arson. Security forces have orders to keep the peace and protect all citizens.
