Guwahati: A man has been arrested in Bongaigaon, Assam, following allegations of assault against a minor girl. The incident occurred near the Aie River in the Haldhibari area, where the girl had gone to wash clothes.
Authorities identified the suspect as Rafiqul Islam of Kacharipeti. According to police reports, the suspect allegedly attempted to sexually assault the victim. When the girl resisted the attack, the suspect reportedly assaulted her. The girl's mother arrived at the scene to help her daughter but was also allegedly attacked during the struggle.
The victim's family reported the incident to the Borghola Police Outpost to initiate legal proceedings. Officials have since registered a case and launched an investigation. Local residents have expressed concern over the incident and are calling for strict action against the accused. Authorities stated that they are "continuing their investigation to ascertain all the circumstances surrounding the case."
