Longleng Launches Malaria Elimination Drive

Kohima: Health officials in Longleng spent June fighting back against malaria. The District Vector Borne Officer and the Chief Medical Officer led the charge under the theme, "Driven to End Malaria: Now We Can. Now We Must."

Teams fanned out across the district to screen migrant workers in high-risk zones. They wanted to catch cases early. They also visited schools and health units to show people how the disease spreads and how to stop it.

Staff spent two weeks checking on Long Lasting Insecticidal Nets. From June 10 to 25, community workers went door to door every evening. They made sure families were actually using the gear to stay safe. Six schools joined a poster contest on June 22 to spread the word to local youth.

The month ended with broad support from NGOs and local leaders. Officials say the campaign helped strengthen surveillance and confirmed the district goal of wiping out malaria for good.
