Local rescuers save 20 students from capsized boat in Assam

Guwahati: Local residents saved 20 schoolchildren from drowning in Dhubri, Assam, today. A country boat flipped in floodwaters near Mela Ghat while heading toward town. Panic erupted at the riverbank when the vessel went under.

Nearby youths jumped into the water without hesitation. They hauled every child and passenger to safety. No fatalities or serious injuries occurred during the scramble. Despite the safe outcome, authorities noted the children were left "traumatised by the incident."

Rising floodwaters have swallowed roads across the region. Families now rely on small boats to get kids to school. This dangerous commute highlights the heavy toll of the monsoon season on rural transit. Locals continue to demand better safety measures for river travel as water levels remain high.
