Imphal: New mudslides at Vaorei stopped all traffic on Manipur's Tadubi-Ukhrul stretch of National Highway 102A. The road remains shut indefinitely. Officials closed this route on June 27 to allow for blacktopping and repairs. Incessant rain buried the work site under fresh debris. The highway is stuck.
Drivers and owners from the Senapati District Truck Drivers' Union and the Senapati District Truck Owners' Association visited the site with National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL) staff. They saw the damage firsthand. While crews cleared some dirt, the mountain shifted again and buried the road. The fix failed.
This road acts as a lifeline for Senapati, Ukhrul, and Imphal. Many travellers now avoid NH-2 because of regional unrest and the need for security escorts. NH-102A offers a safer, more reliable path for Naga civilians. The closure hurts everyone.
NHIDCL officials blame the bad weather for the delay. Their workers cannot finish the job while the ground keeps sliding. NHIDCL stated, "Their immediate priority is to clear the debris and restore basic vehicular movement." Permanent repairs will wait until the rain stops.
