Itanagar: A landslide slammed into the Melli-Jorethang road in Sikkim on July 9. Boulders and mud buried the route. Traffic stopped cold. The slide came after days of heavy rain pounded the region.

Authorities have an excavator working the site right now. They expect to reopen the road soon. Officials warned commuters to avoid unnecessary travel, stating: "Authorities have urged residents and travellers to remain vigilant, follow official advisories and avoid landslide-prone areas as the monsoon continues."

More rain is likely on the way. The state remains at high risk for further slides and road blocks. Stay alert.
