Guwahati: A massive landslide triggered by continuous heavy rainfall has brought traffic on National Highway 27 to a complete standstill in Assam. The collapse occurred on Sunday in the Jatinga area of the Dima Hasao district, burying a section of the road between Jatinga and Harangajao under mud, rocks, and debris.
The blockage has left hundreds of passenger vehicles, buses, and commercial trucks stranded on both sides of the affected highway. Local authorities arrived at the scene shortly after the incident to assess the damage and begin clearing the roadway. However, persistent rain and the instability of the surrounding hillside have significantly hindered these recovery efforts.
Officials are monitoring the site closely to ensure the road is cleared as soon as weather conditions allow for safe operations. In the meantime, the administration issued a public advisory asking citizens to avoid the route. Authorities stated that "restoration efforts are underway" while they work to normalize traffic flow and ensure the highway is safe for travel once again.
