Lahe Public Demands End to Independent Naga Faction Taxation

Kohima: Naga public leaders in Lahe issued a firm directive on October 7. They officially rejected independent tax collection and extortion by Naga factions. The resolution follows a September 13, 2026, gathering held at the Naga Cultural Hall. Attendees included the Naga Students' Organization (NSO), Tribal Hohos, and the Naga Traditional Literature and Cultural Committee.

Multiple taxation demands have crippled local households, shops, and markets. The community now demands a formal, agreed channel for voluntary contributions. A designated committee must oversee these funds. Leaders believe this process will alleviate the financial strain on the local population.

The gathering reaffirmed a June 13, 2023, joint statement. It prohibits the creation of new factions in Eastern Nagaland and Myanmar. Participants do not recognize groups formed in front of the present generation. They specifically addressed the September 10, 2026, declaration from the National Socialist Council of Nagaland-People's Republic of Nagaland (NSCN-PRN), signed by Joseph Naga.

Regarding this new organization, the assembly remained skeptical. As stated in the press release: "In this regard, the NSO and the participating members of the gathering would like to state that we have no established information regarding the organization's movement or activities in Myanmar, and that its presence and activities are unknown to us."

The assembly urged all Naga national groups to merge under one umbrella. They insist that the national movement must rely on voluntary support alone. Factions must respect this public mandate. Leaders hope to restore unity and order across the region.
