Kohima: Krishi Vigyan Kendra Zunheboto and NABARD launched a new initiative to empower rural women through Kadaknath poultry farming in Akuluto. The project, funded by the NABARD Farmers Support Programme Fund, aims to improve nutrition and income generation across the Zunheboto district.
During the June 12 event, officials distributed essential farming supplies to 45 women from Sastami, Maromi, and Ajiqami villages. The distribution included Kadaknath chicks, feed, medicines, and equipment such as drinkers and feeders to help the participants establish their farms.
Dr. Rakesh Kumar Chaurasia, the head of KVK Zunheboto, explained that the initiative focuses on sustainable livelihoods and women-led development. Tiayanger Jamir, the Additional Deputy Commissioner of Akuluto, served as the chief guest and encouraged participants to focus on branding and value addition to increase their earnings. He stated that the local administration is ready to provide support, noting: "ADC Jamir lauded the intervention, urging women to adopt improved practices and explore value addition and branding to maximize profits."
Poji, the District Development Manager for NABARD, highlighted that the introduction of Kadaknath poultry is a unique step for the region, citing the breed's high market value for its premium meat and eggs. The programme concluded with organizers reaffirming their commitment to long-term agricultural success and nutrition security in Nagaland.
