KVK Dimapur Promotes Improved Paddy Variety in Nikhekhu Village

Kohima: The ICAR-Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) in Dimapur hosted a Frontline Demonstration on June 2 at Nikhekhu village to introduce the high-yield paddy variety known as RC Maniphou-15. The initiative, held under the ICAR Research Complex for NEH Region, brought together 24 local farmers to learn about advanced agricultural techniques.

Dr. Phool Kumari, the Senior Scientist and Head of KVK Dimapur, opened the session by outlining the organization’s support services. She also promoted the Khet Bachao Abhiyan campaign, which focuses on sustainable farming practices, efficient resource management, and the maintenance of soil health.

Technical guidance was provided by Dr. Bendangla Imsong, who detailed scientific methods for lowland paddy cultivation. Her lecture covered essential topics such as nursery management, weed control, and integrated pest management. She told the attendees, "She emphasized the advantages of RC Maniphou-15 in enhancing productivity and farmers’ income."

To support soil health and crop sustainability, Assistant Chief Technical Officer E. Lireni Kikon encouraged the farmers to utilize soil testing and integrated nutrient management. The event concluded with a practical demonstration of support as 400 kilograms of RC Maniphou-15 seeds were distributed to the participants, followed by a session dedicated to answering specific questions regarding local paddy cultivation.
