Imphal: Thousands of individuals from the Kuki-Zo community gathered in Motbung on Saturday to participate in a significant protest rally within the Kangpokpi district of Manipur. This demonstration occurred on the first day of a 48-hour shutdown initiated by the Kuki Inpi Manipur. Organized by the Committee on Tribal Unity, the rally served as a platform for the community to demand the immediate release of Kuki-Zo civilians who are allegedly being held hostage following recent outbreaks of violence across the state.

Participants marched from Motbung Bazaar toward Charhajare, displaying placards and chanting slogans that called for enhanced security for vulnerable hill district villages and accountability for those responsible for recent attacks. The protesters specifically demanded justice regarding the tragic killing of three church leaders in the Kangpokpi district earlier this week. They further urged the central government to launch a high-level investigation into recent ambush incidents to ensure long-term stability and safety in the region.
