Imphal: A resident of Lasan village in Tamenglong District, Haogin Lhouyum, was allegedly shot dead on Tuesday afternoon. The Kuki Inpi Manipur (KIM) condemned the killing, describing it as a cold-blooded murder that highlights a significant failure in the state's security apparatus.

In a formal statement, the organization accused the government of administrative bias and selective deployment of security forces. "This incident raises serious questions about the continued neglect of vulnerable Kuki-Zo villages in Tamenglong District and the authorities' failure to ensure their safety and security," the group stated. The KIM is demanding an immediate explanation from the Manipur government and local security agencies regarding the ongoing lack of protection for Kuki-Zo communities.

Tensions remain high as the Kuki Inpi Sadar Hills (KI-SH) raised further concerns regarding the handling of the victim's remains. The group alleged that the body was blocked from passing through Makui village during transport for funeral rites. They labeled the action as a violation of basic humanitarian principles and urged all involved parties to respect the dignity of the deceased.

The KI-SH emphasized that such actions, regardless of ethnic or political disputes, are deeply distressing to the grieving family. They called on authorities to restore order and ensure that humanitarian values are prioritized even amid ongoing regional instability.
