Imphal: Gunmen shot and killed 53-year-old Haolal Singsit while he worked in his jhum field on July 11. The attack happened near Govajang village in the Kangpokpi district of Manipur. Singsit was out in the field with his wife, Nemneikim Singsit, when the shooting started.

Around 4 p.m., unidentified attackers opened fire on the couple. Local residents reported hearing about 20 rounds of gunfire. Fear gripped the area. When the couple failed to return home that evening, villagers went to the field and found Singsit dead from multiple gunshot wounds.

His wife managed to slip away and reached safety. While local groups suspect cadres from the NSCN-IM and ZUF-K carried out the hit, authorities have yet to confirm who pulled the trigger. "Security forces are expected to investigate the attack," noted reports on the incident.

The area near the Tamenglong district border remains volatile. Residents grow increasingly nervous after security forces recently seized weapons near the village. The remote location leaves villagers feeling exposed to ongoing violence in the region.
