Kohima: The Department of New and Renewable Energy in Kohima hosted a series of student competitions on June 2 to mark World Environment Day 2026. The event, which focused on the theme of Climate Action, included essay writing, slogan writing, and drawing contests for high schoolers under the Mission LiFE initiative.
During the event, Director Er. James Khala urged students to prioritize the preservation of natural resources. He highlighted the necessity of environmental stewardship in the face of ongoing developmental expansion, encouraging the youth to actively protect the planet for future generations.
Six schools took part in the activities. In the slogan category, Baptist Mission School student Anguni Nagi took the top spot, while Ketoubi Semo won the drawing competition and Neilakieü Miachieo from Don Bosco Higher Secondary School earned first place in the essay contest.
The program featured opening remarks from Additional Director Er. Inaho P. Awomi and guidance from Deputy Director Neizeno Peseyie. Joint Director Lhuobeizo Kesiyie opened the session with an invocation, and the event concluded with a vote of thanks from Joint Director Er. Renilo Nuh after the prize distribution ceremony.
