Kohima: Kohima Police collared three men on June 22 for shaking down local businesses. Officers acted on tips to pull off two separate raids targeting underground factions. The arrests signal a push to clean up extortion rackets in the capital.
At Razhü Point, police nabbed Cizoto Veswuh. The 47-year-old claims the title of SS Captain with the NNC/FGN Thinoselie Group. Officers found an FGN receipt and an information slip on him. Police booked him under Section 308(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and Section 7 of the Nagaland Security Regulation.
Across town, South Police Station investigators worked a separate lead. Business owners reported extortion demands but feared going to the cops. A probe eventually linked two suspects to the shakedowns. Police arrested Viketouzo, 46, and John Magh, 39. Officials identified the pair as members of the NSCN/GPRN K Michael faction. Police said "further investigation is underway to establish the extent of extortion activities and identify other persons involved." The suspects face charges under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
