Kohima Opens Election Helpdesk to Boost Voter Participation

Kohima: Kohima officials opened a new district helpdesk to speed up voter registration. The office aims to bring more eligible citizens into the fold during the Special Intensive Revision Exercise. It prioritizes support for persons with disabilities, migrant workers, and the elderly.

Deputy Commissioner B Henok Buchem acted on orders from the Election Commission of India. He set up the desk to smooth out the process. Shurhotuonuo, a computer assistant at the District Election Office, now runs the operation. "The initiative aims to assist electors, particularly persons with disabilities (PwDs), migrants and elderly voters."

Voters can call Shurhotuonuo directly at 8794607805 for specific guidance. The national helpline 1950 remains open for general questions. Officials expect these resources to cut red tape for local residents.
