Kohima: The Kohima District Planning and Development Board held its monthly meeting on May 26 to address critical local updates and district initiatives. Deputy Commissioner B. Henok Buchem chaired the session, which included plans for an upcoming blood donation campaign. The event is scheduled for June 12, 2026, at the Capital Cultural Hall with Governor Nand Kishore Yadav attending as the guest of honor.
Educational and infrastructure developments also took center stage. The board moved to recommend new academic streams for local government schools, specifically an Arts stream for GHSS Kigwema and a Science stream for GHSS Jotsoma. Officials also discussed extending water supply support to the 10th NAP headquarters in Zhadima through potential federal funding. Furthermore, the board honored student Visezono Vakha for achieving the top score in the 2026 HSLC exams among government schools in the district.
A major focus of the meeting was the Special Intensive Revision of the electoral roll. Assistant Electoral Officer Chisho detailed that house-to-house verification is set to run from August 6 through September 14, with the final roll publication slated for November 22. Officials confirmed that Aadhaar cards will serve strictly as identity proof during this process. Regarding public safety, Senior Superintendent of Police Krodi Rhetso noted ongoing efforts to curb illegal taxation and maintain order on National Highway 2. The board also requested that the public avoid spreading provocative content online during periods of instability.
