Kakching District Marks 77th Van Mahotsav With Mass Tree Planting

Imphal: Three hundred people gathered at Langmeidong playground today to celebrate the 77th Van Mahotsav. The Thoubal Forest Division led the effort to plant 120 saplings across the site. They also handed out 900 tree seedlings to locals to push for better environmental conservation.

Hiyanglam MLA Dr. Yumnam Radheshyam served as the event's chief guest. Kakching Deputy Commissioner Angeline Renita R attended as the guest of honor, while Divisional Forest Officer Dr. Leishangthem Jeeceelee presided over the function.

The event drew a wide crowd. Local civil society groups, village federations, students, and volunteers joined the forest department staff for the drive. Members from six different gram panchayats, including Hiyanglam and Waikhong, were present to show support. Range Forest Officer Laishram Dinesh Singh helped coordinate the team. The collective action highlights a growing focus on regional reforestation.
