Guwahati: Jorhat police detained 15 individuals during a late-night raid at a luxury hotel near National Highway 37 on Monday. The operation targeted the Orchid Hotel following intelligence reports that the venue was hosting an illicit prostitution network.

Additional Superintendent of Police Abhishek Kumar Yadav stated that authorities are investigating claims that the hotel served as a hub for moving women across upper Assam and surrounding districts. During the operation, police seized various items and conducted forensic documentation to assist the ongoing inquiry.

Officers detained seven women and eight men during the sweep. Authorities are currently classifying the women as potential victims until the investigation reveals otherwise. Regarding the detained men, Yadav noted, "Eight men were also apprehended from the hotel. They are being treated as persons of interest for the purpose of investigation. Their involvement, if any, will be determined only after a detailed inquiry and examination of the evidence."

Police continue to analyze evidence recovered from the site. Officials indicated that further arrests or legal actions may occur as investigators verify the extent of the alleged criminal activity.
