Imphal: Security forces seized a massive arsenal in the Kuki-dominated Kangpokpi district of Manipur. The haul followed a three-day counter-insurgency operation that sparked a firefight with suspected militants. The armed individuals fled into the hilly terrain, leaving their gear behind.

Intelligence reports first tipped off the military to insurgents moving through the area. A joint mission featuring the Manipur Police, Indian Army, CRPF, RAF, and CoBRA moved in to sweep the region. They combed through Leilon Vaiphei, Leilon Munlui, Molhoi, P. Moulding, and Leilon Khunou.

Gunfire erupted during the search. Officials said the combing operations, which concluded on Monday, led to the recovery of a substantial arsenal. The haul includes two AK-47 rifles, one M4 Carbine, two SLRs, an SKS rifle, an improvised sniper rifle, and nearly 30 shotguns. Soldiers also found ammo and communication kits.

Police took custody of the items for legal processing. Investigators now aim to track the origin of the hardware and identify the specific militant groups involved. This effort marks the latest push by security agencies to stop insurgent activity and restore order to the state.
