Imphal: Three Kuki youths recovering from bullet injuries at the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences in Imphal were relocated to Churachandpur Medical College early Wednesday morning. Security forces organized a heavy escort to move the patients following hours of volatile protests at the Imphal campus that began shortly after the youths were admitted on June 15.
Authorities described the transfer as a precautionary step to preserve law and order at the hospital. Security officials stated the move was "a precautionary measure aimed at maintaining law and order and preventing further confrontation at the RIMS campus."
This transfer occurred as security forces intensified operations across Manipur to dismantle fortified positions. In the Litan sector of Ukhrul district, combined forces destroyed 26 bunkers over two days. During these searches, personnel recovered various items, including binoculars, live SBBL ammunition, and several empty cartridge cases. These operations are part of a broader push to stabilize the region, with additional support provided by three units of the Commando Battalion for Resolute Action.
Director General of Police Rajiv Singh is personally directing ongoing search and area domination exercises throughout the Kangpokpi, Churachandpur, and Thoubal districts. These efforts align with the state government's commitment to preventing armed groups from regrouping, a strategy recently reaffirmed by Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh and Home Minister Govindas Konthoujam.
