India Awaits Verification from Bangladesh for Over 2,680 Deportation Cases

Imphal: The Indian government announced that it intends to handle all illegal foreign nationals according to strict legal procedures. Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal confirmed that officials have referred 2,680 cases to Bangladesh for nationality verification. Deportation of these individuals will move forward as soon as the neighboring country confirms their status.

Many of these verification requests have remained stalled for more than five years. Jaiswal expressed hope for a prompt response from Bangladesh to resolve the backlog and allow for the return of these nationals under existing bilateral arrangements.

This development comes as northeastern states, such as Assam and Tripura, increase their administrative and political focus on border security and illegal immigration management.
