Imphal: The Office of the District Election Officer in Imphal West has launched a Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls for 2026. Deputy Commissioner and District Election Officer Mayanglambam Rajkumar Singh announced the move, which follows instructions from the Election Commission of India to refine voter lists using July 1, 2026, as the official qualifying date. The goal is to register all eligible residents while filtering out those who do not meet the criteria.
Preparatory work and training sessions for local officials are currently underway and scheduled to wrap up by May 29. Starting May 30, a team of 530 Booth Level Officers will begin door-to-door visits to verify voter information. These officers will provide pre-filled enumeration forms to residents, who may also submit their details through the official Election Commission website. During this period, the district will also streamline its polling station network.
The draft electoral roll is set for public release on July 5, marking the start of a month-long window for citizens to file claims and objections. Final verification of these submissions will continue until early September, with the definitive roll publication scheduled for September 6. To manage this effort, the district has mobilized 13 Electoral Registration Officers and 13 assistants to oversee the process.
Officials confirmed the current voter population in Imphal West stands at 390,196 individuals. During the enumeration phase, voters must provide a recent passport photograph but do not need to submit formal documents immediately. Scrutiny of official records will occur later during the claims process, and the department has committed to notifying any voter before deleting a name from the register.
