Shillong: The India Meteorological Department has issued a weather warning for Assam, predicting heavy to very heavy rainfall, gusty winds, and thunderstorms over the next three days. These conditions are expected to impact Guwahati and various districts across the state, creating risks for residents and commuters alike.
The Assam State Disaster Management Authority cautioned that the adverse weather could lead to significant issues, including water logging, traffic congestion, and potential landslides in vulnerable regions. Regarding the outlook, the agency stated, "The weather pattern suggests that thunderstorm and lightning with few spells of rain are very likely at the isolated places of the city along with other districts of the state in the coming two to three days which may aggravate water logging, slow vehicular movement and increase the risk of localised landslides in vulnerable pockets."
Emergency response teams remain on high alert as officials monitor the situation. The authority has urged those living in hillside or low-lying areas to stay vigilant for signs of flooding. Residents and commuters are advised to limit unnecessary travel during heavy downpours and monitor official channels for real-time updates provided on the ASDMA website and social media platforms.
