Shillong: The Hill State People’s Democratic Party is demanding a fast end to the border fight between Meghalaya and Assam. Party president KP Pangniang says the government must move now. He wants regional committees to pick up the pace and talk to their neighbors immediately.
The dispute covers six specific zones. These areas remain a thorn in the side for the MDA government. The party insists that using five core principles will unlock a deal. These include historical facts, ethnicity, and geography. They also look at people’s perception and how easy it is to manage the land.
Langpih remains the hardest nut to crack. It is a messy, complicated spot. Still, Pangniang believes the agreed terms will work if both sides keep talking. "The five agreed principles could help find a way forward even in complicated sectors such as Langpih," Pangniang said.
Pangniang sits on the West Khasi Hills Regional Committee. He expects his group to start fresh discussions with Assam soon. Any final deal must match what the local people want. The party believes public support will make or break the plan.
