Guwahati: The Fakua Dol stands on the brink of ruin. This pyramid-shaped monument in Sivasagar, Assam, faces severe neglect that threatens to erase a key piece of Ahom history. Locals are now calling for the state government to fix the crumbling structure before it collapses.
Ahom King Swargadeo Rudra Singha built this site between 1703 and 1704. It sits four kilometers west of Sivasagar town near the Talatal Ghar. The 30-foot monument rests on an octagonal plinth. Many believe the spot marks the burial site of Queen Joymati Kunwari, the king's mother.
Experts prize the structure as a rare look at early Ahom architecture. Visitors and historians frequent the landmark to study its legacy. Despite this, the site continues to decay. Concerned residents are pressuring officials to act, stating the "alleged neglect by the Assam government has contributed to the deteriorating condition of the protected heritage structure."
