HCG Brings Specialist Cancer Care to Shillong

Shillong: Healthcare Global Enterprises Ltd. opened an Expert Cancer Outpatient Department in Shillong this Friday. The hospital network partnered with Woodland Hospitals to bring these services to Meghalaya. Patients can now book consultations every 15 days from 9 am to 1 pm. This move cuts down on expensive travel outside the state for expert medical advice.

The team treats various malignancies including leukaemia, lymphoma, and multiple myeloma. Specialists also evaluate patients who might need stem cell transplants. HCG Chief Operating Officer Manisha Kumar sees a direct link between rising cancer rates and the need for local services. "Through this OPD, we are bringing multidisciplinary care closer to patients in Meghalaya, ensuring expert clinical guidance and seamless referrals to advanced care when needed," she said.

Dr. KS Nataraj, a Senior Consultant in Hemato-Oncology, warned that patients often lose time without local specialists. The new clinic aims to prevent these delays by streamlining referrals for complex cases. During the launch, doctors showcased the successful non-invasive treatment of a 66-year-old woman from the region. She suffered from a rare brain tumour called Vestibular Schwannoma.

Dr. Kirthi Koushik treated her at the HCG Bengaluru centre using the CyberKnife Robotic Radiosurgery System. This high-tech tool delivered precise radiation to the growth. It spared her healthy tissue and removed the need for open surgery.
