Guwahati: Guwahati authorities have cancelled the licences of 63 Green Bus drivers. This follows a string of complaints and a fatal accident in Fancy Bazar that left two people dead. The Kamrup Metropolitan district administration is done playing nice.
Police now demand strict lane discipline. Green Buses must stick to the left lane at all times. They cannot overtake other vehicles under any circumstances. Any driver caught breaking this rule faces an immediate seven-day ban for their bus.
Accountability is the new priority. Drivers must now display their licences on the front windshield for all to see. Police will seize the documents of any driver caught committing a serious violation and send them to the District Transport Officer for further action.
Kamrup Metropolitan District Commissioner Swapneel Paul confirmed that the city is moving to formalize these directives through the Regional Transport Authority. "We have already taken cognisance of the issues, and certain verbal instructions have been communicated. Through the RTA, these will soon be formally enforced," Paul said.
The administration is also tackling route issues. Officials observed too many buses crowding specific routes while others go ignored. The Assam State Transport Corporation must now distribute the fleet across 16 designated routes. Any bus caught off its assigned path faces immediate suspension. The message is clear: clean up the act or get off the road.
